Race to the clouds - Pikes Peak 91st running
Peugeot and Loeb SMASH the world record!
Peugeot and Sébastien Loeb have just smashed all previous record times at this years running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a time of 8'13.878"! (the previous record was 9'46.164" would you believe?) You could almost sense that Peugeot were bound to strike gold with the winning formula with Sébastien Loeb, their 208 T16 and Red Bull! How long do you think it will be before we see the record setting 208 as a slot car? :)
For the record the T16 is powered by a 3.2L V6 Twin Turbo all-wheel drive that generates 875hp and can propel the T16 from 0-100km/h in 1.8s! The 12.42 (19.99km) mile course contains 156 corners and climbs to an elevation of 14,000 feet.
The below footage is of Sébastien and the T16 making the record setting run up the peak, (the full run) you can just see the tension in Leob (count how many times he checks his safety belts alone) as he prepares for the attempt, amazing stuff! Apologies for the camera issues during the run. :)
This from Sébastien regarding the performance of the T16: 'The WRC legend was clearly happy to be back in the 208 T16 Pikes Peak, now painted in the colours it will wear on Pikes Peak. “It’s not the power that impresses me anymore; I’ve got used to it,” Loeb said, “It’s the speed at which the corners leap out at you which is more striking than round a circuit where there’s always a ‘100-metre’ board to show you where to brake. Here, you can be in fifth or sixth gear and you suddenly see mountainside ahead of you; you have to work out for yourself where you need to brake…'
The below professionally produced movie was released by Peugeot a week before the attempt and gives you some insight into the team preparation not to mention what it's like onboard the T16, WOW!
