GALLERY: Scalextric Corvette C6R GT

Scalextric Chevrolet Corvette C6R GT
C3288, 'Larbre Competition' GT2 winner Le Mans 2012

Recently for his birthday my son requested this Scalextric Corvette, not the latest Slot.it, Sideways or NSR but this bright yellow, old-school Scaley Vette.  At first I thought he was confused but upon pressing him he explained...'Dad it has awesome lights, front and back and the colours look really cool.'

Turns out it is really cool, the Larbre Competition team colours work really well together and they are highly visible running around the track.  And the lights are really awesome, fewer manufactures include lights these days, Scalextric, SCX and Carrera with Carrera not including lights in all models.

Performance is excellent, ok you won't find a floating motor pod in this chassis but it does come standard with great 'from-the-box' track pace.  True the rear rubber and remove the 1-2mm rear axle play with a shim and you'll find 0.5-1 second on a 20 metre lap track!  Detail levels are impressive, front and rear grills, various intakes, brake discs, significant internal cockpit and driver detail - did I mention the lights!?

From Scalextric: 'For the last 8 years Corvette Racing has dominated the GT1 category of the American Le Mans Series. Since they began, their race spec Corvette has won at the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and since 2005 they have been competing the C6R against world-class grand touring cars from automakers like Aston Martin.

In 2009 the factory backed racing effort chose to step down into the GT2 category in order to compete with the same cars on the track that the production model competes with in showrooms. The Corvette race cars are powered by 6.0 litre GM small block that is based on the 7.0 litre LS7R that powered the outgoing GT1 version. The engine output is a relatively conservative 470 HP.'

The below video from Youtube gives you a small indication that perhaps the Larbre Competition team is a little happy with their GT2 win at Le Mans in 2012.

I'm moving to a more 'track' orientated type of photography for the gallery as apposed to the white 'high-key' background you might be used to viewing here at ManicSlots.  Let me know what you think?
