Something that is very close to our hearts here at ManicSlots is slot car scenery, the more realistic the better.  These days we are lucky enough to be able to purchase slot cars that have a high-level of accuracy for reasonable prices.  High quality figures for your track are unfortunately not so widely available, lets face it some of the 1/32 figures we have on our layouts more closely resemble an alien than a human!

Well things are changing, we know that there are several manufactures that have identified the need for well made and accurate 1/32 figures for our layouts.  Enter Figurenmanufaktur, a German manufacture that have been producing Motorsport figures in 1/18 and 1/43 for sometime.  The great news is Figurenmanufaktur have now decided to release a range of 1/32 scale and they will be starting with an impressive drivers line-up: Hans Herrmann, Jo Siffert, Emerson Fittipaldi, Graham Hill, Jim Clark and Jochen Rindt.

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

• The Scalextric Lotus Type 49 is an incredibly popular slot and has excellent potential to become highly collectible
• Very impressive 'from the box' performance, (sub 6 seconds on my track!)
• beautifully detailed slot car
• Forced centering guide
• Fantastic paint finish

Weaknesses:

• Perhaps a little fragile, (especially rear exhausts)
• Average non magnetic performance

Verdict:

The Lotus Type 49 is an excellent release from Scalextric. A slot that looks as good as it performs on the track. Amazingly this little slot car almost attained 'cult' collection status over night!

Even if you not a classic F1 fan you owe it to yourself to have at least one of these gems in your collection.

NEWS: Lotus Type 49

#7 Graham Hill 1967

Scalextric are set to release yet another classic F1, the Lotus Type 49 1967 driven by Graham Hill at French Grand Prix on the Le Mans-Bugatti circuit. A completely stunning slot car which is bound to be very popular with classic and non classic collectors/drivers alike.

A little history from Scalextric: 'Going into the 1967 French Grand Prix on the Le Mans-Bugatti circuit, Graham Hill was looking to capitalise on his pole position from qualifying along side the cars of Jack Brabham and Dan Gurney.

Alas, after 14 laps of the shorter Le Mans circuit Hill retired the car with crown wheel and pinion failure.'
