NEWS: NSR Aston Martin Vantage

NSR Aston Martin Vantage GT3

NSR have just release some stunning photos of their all new Aston Martin Vantage GT3 model due for release in August.  I'm sure you'll agree when I say it looks fast and just have a look at the size of that rear wing!

The Aston Vantage is bound to be a fantastic racing mate for NRS's already impressive GT line-up of Porsche 997 GT3, Mosler MT900R, Corvette C6R and Audi R8 LMS.  Racing liveries to follow...Model length is 140.5mm, width: 63.5mm, height: 35.5mm, wheelbase: 82.5mm, guide distance: 95mm, full weight (including magnet): 84.4g and body only 19.5g.

NEWS: NSR Ford P68 Alan Mann

1144SW Ford P68
Alan Mann Brands Hatch 1968 #33

NSR have just release some photos of their upcoming Ford P68 Brands Hatch livery.  The P68 was one of my absolute favourite motorcars growing up as a kid, the P68 lines are insane!!!  I have the red 1046 Alan Mann #7 Nurburgring P68 and the #33 livery looks very similar right down to the red wheels.

As you would expect, NSR's P68 is a pleasure to drive and I recommend getting one if you don't already have one in your collection.

NEWS: NSR Audi R8 GT3

1154AW - Audi R8 LMS GT3

NSR have just release some photos of their next R8 GT3 livery and it looks pretty impressive.  I must say I've wanted to add the R8 to my stable of NSR cars but none of the NSR liveries released to date have grabbed my imagination till now.

The red Playstation #97 R8 livery is simple but impressive and would look fantastic running around the track...so many slots, so little mullah!

NEWS: NSR Porsche 997/917K

1143AW - Porsche 997 GT - Daytona 2007 Playboy #35 "black"
1153AW - Porsche 997 GT - Daytona 2007 Playboy #35 "green"
1152SW - Porsche 917K - LM Le Mans 1971 #57

NSR are about to release some impressive new Porsche 917K/997 GT liveries at a slot shop nearest you.  I'll be honest and say that I never really enjoyed the Fly Playboy releases that much but did like the Scalextric C2684 Playboy Opel released a few years back.  Like the Scalextric release, these NSR cars look impressive in my opinion, particularly the black livery.

The #57 Porsche 917K was raced by the Zitro Racing Team at Le Mans in 1971 by Dominique Martin (CH) and Gérard Pillon (CH).  Le Mans is considered by some to be the toughest endurance race in the world so its with no shame that the Zitro Racing Team entry was a DNF with gearbox issues.  The blue/white livery is simple but impressive and will work very well on the track in terms of visibility.

NEWS: NSR's Devotion

NSR's devotion to the highest
standard in slot cars

As a massive classic slot fan I was very excited early on in the year when I heard NSR was going to release the Porsche 917K. The 917K has a huge fan base and has always been the domain of Fly Slot Car Models. If a criticism could be made of the Fly 917K it would be that it takes quite a bit of work (and aftermarket parts) to make them a strong runner on the track. Not a problem we can expect from NSR.

I was recently reading an article from NSR regarding the production of the 24hrs Daytona 1970 Set. I was very impressed with how seriously NSR takes the production of their cars, these guys really love their job and that means we all win.

This article from NSR: 'Dear readers, I have to explain some important things:First of all, please remember always that NSR produces slot cars only for competitions.ALL NSR cars are MADE IN ITALY. NSR is small artisan company producing directly into the factory except paint and tampo. Our costs to buy molds for 1 car only, is about 60.000,00 eur (yes, it is sixty-thousands-euro!!) because all molds are Made in Italy. For this reason we cannot change things as a Chinese wizard could do. Our costs are very high; all NSR employers have regular work-contract, insurance, and we pay royalty to all Companies and Sponsors (as Gulf for example ) that give us licence, as we are not bandit.'

"We LOVE slot cars, and we try every day to make our best. We are not big industry, we are only few guys.So please, before make your comments about details, bigger lights, smaller windows… think always about NSR philosophy: NSR produces competition slot cars racing on the tracks, winning around the World, not to put on the desk! NSR makes slot cars only for competition! To WIN competitions, not to play!We invite you to found on the market for 69,50eur or 75,00eur a slot car (equipped with alu. Wheels and gear, steel axles, bronze oilites, high torque motor…) faster than NSR car “straight of box”!"

"Yes, because NSR cars are absolutely fastest slot cars “out of box”. (some cars without magnet are absolutely a disaster…)  THIS is our mission, our filosophy, and we try every day only to improve performance. Our competitors are not Racer or Fly or other Brands… our competitor are Tracks, Lap Timer, Race result! We think only about performance!I like to explain this first, just because some people couldn’t know how it is difficult this work for a small company as NSR."

"Starting from SET01, all new NSR cars (1030 Punto S2000, 1031 MK IV Usa, 1032 917K Piper) have complete nice detailed cockpit: hand painted driver helmet, belts, gloves; roll-bar, driver, helmet, steering wheel, seat reproduce same colour of real car; also bodies have more and more details then previous years. Always made in Italy, made directly in NSR factory !NSR is well know as manufacturer of high performance slot cars straight out of box. Now it is right time to improve look of NSR models, so our cars will be fast and nice too!"

"The reason is not simply, I try to explain to our clients and fans:Paint and tampo are not made in our factory, and these two steps required very long time; also the final transparent paint has to make very careful, otherwise car is destroyed….Tampo is hand made, it is made by simply hand machine, not by computer-automatic machine.More than extimated time; so we received 500 of n.1 + 500 of n.2 only last 06 december. We worked as devils to assemble cars quickly, but there are many complicated and “extra” steps that required more time (drivers with different helmet, accessories included into same mold produced in more different colours to make nice cockpit, fan, motor, steering wheel, head…) … and we cannot work 20hours day, because quality MUST be high."

We can only hope that production issues for NSR get better as they certainly are producing a stunning looking slot in the Porsche 917K.

NEWS: NSR Ford Mk IV

NSR FORD MK IV

I just received some VERY exciting information and photos from Salvatore at NSR. NSR is glad to announce his first classic car, the FORD MK IV.

BODYSHELL

The "Modellistic" attitude with high attention to details is an aspect which we consider to be fundamental and this has been fully adhered to, in fact the bodyshell is made in 2 separate part for better look. Inside the cockpit there is a four pieces driver, the steering wheel, gear shift and motor. The body is fixed to the chassis by way of two screws at the front and one screw at rear. Body dimensions are 60 mm width, 137mm lenght, 30 mm high. The wheelbase is 75.1mm and the distance from center of rear axle to center guide is 94.7mm. The weight of the fully accessoried and painted bodyshell it is 18 g. whilst the weight of the RTR car it is 69 g.

DECORATION

The first livery version of the NSR FORD MK IV reproduces the winner of 12 Hours Sebring 1967. Later body will be modified to reproduce liveries of 24 Hours Le Mans 1967 with number 2, 3 and 4. At the end body will be again modified to reproduce the winner of 24 Hours Le Mans 1967 with number 1.

CHASSIS

The main chassis is nylon made “flat” design of 1 to 1.5 mm thickness for maximum grip when cornering whilst capable to withstand crashes. Sidewinder motor support is held in position to main chassis by three screws (one in front and two at the side) which are only crossing it to screw into an independent ring. This allows the motor support to move independently from the chassis and in the desired amount (which can be set by simply unscrewing the screws from underneath). The motor is of a sidewinder configuration with two degrees from the rear axle. The chassis comes with a removable traction magnet, located just ahead of the motor; the neodymium magnet is round, 4mm high and 8mm diameter with two different mounting positions. The guide is counter-sunk well inside the chassis to allow desired ground clearance by the use of thin spacers to be placed in between the guide itself and the chassis. The one piece front axle can move vertically. Rear pillow block height, allows the gear to protrude only 1mm under the chassis level thus leaving still 1 mm. gear/track clearance.

PICK-UP GUIDE

The guide is similar to that of current offerings, but it is low-profile (only 1mm thickness); exclusive adjustable height using .005” and/or .010" new spacers, to cater for racing on all types of plastic tracks, as well as wooden tracks with raised, flush or recessed braid/copper tape to optimise the braids contact. The pivoting shaft is 8mm high for a free vertical movement. The brass connectors used to fix the wires to the guide are newly made, slightly bigger, chosen to guarantee a tough contact with our smallest thickness braids.

MECHANICAL

The components of NSR FORD MK IV are made up of the usual high-quality from NSR:

  • NSR3004 20K Shark motor, 20000rpm 164gr-cm
  • NSR4801 precision and very strong 49mm x 3/32" diameter axles
  • NSR5001 aluminium 16mm. diameter ‘front - NO air system’ 4/40 set screw front wheels
  • NSR5002 aluminium 16 mm. diameter 'Air System' 4/40 set-screw rear wheels
  • NSR5235 ‘No-friction’ hard front rubbers 19.5 x 8.5mm specifically made for Ford MK IV
  • NSR5239 ”Supergrip' rear softer rubbers, 21 x 10mm specifically made for Ford MK IV
  • NSR4803 Autolubricant & no-friction oilites
  • NSR6911 Extralight & no-friction 11t pinion
  • NSR6032 Extralight & no-friction 32t gear 17.5mm

MOTOR

The motor for the NSR FORD MK IV is the Shark 20K, fully developed by triple World Champion Salvatore Noviello, made always by the same NSR philosophy: to realize high performance product without compromises! Shark 20K motor has 20000 RPM at 12Volts with an excellent torque value of 164 gr/cm, an exceptional value, previously obtained only from “long can” and heavy motors. The motor can is opened from both sides, it has cooling oval holes and the magnets are ceramics. A famous Spanish magazine after a comparative test has described the NSR motor superior to any other motor challenge.

POLICY ‘Ready to Run’ is not enough!

NSR's objective is to make a Classic car using modern technology, so high tech ‘Ready To Race’. It needed to be competitive straight out the box, without any fiddling or modifications required to make it perform properly and we believe that this third car has also achieved this target. Our policy is to offer really a ‘Ready To Win’ car; we never like that people need to buy aluminium wheels to replace plastic wheels, soft rubbers to replace hard rubbers, or a motor to replace slow box stock motor…! The NSR FORD MK IV is an innovative model with high tech components, highly performing on track still respecting the scale modellistic aspect.

Manufacturing costs and artisan labor in Italy are however significantly higher than China or East Europe, but NSR is very proud of the fact that all the models are completely and entirely built in Italy, thus allowing NSR to have absolute control over quality and to demonstrate our Country capability. All NSR FORD MK IV cars are assembled and tested exclusively into NSR Factory and only by NSR employers, so NSR can offer full warranty about final product.Retail price will be in proportion to the quality of product.

First livery of NSR FORD MK IV will be on the market during March 2008.
