Entries for the 2014 running of the World rally slot car proxy are currently being taken, you have until the 18th of January to put your name down to enter the event.  The WRP was run last year to great success and saw prepared slot cars from more than 40 entrants sent to some amazing destinations (Australia, Isle of Mann, Italy, England, Scotland and Greece) to compete in a 12 round competition.

What I find particularly appealing about the proxy is that the rules are straight forward and simple enough to understand.  You don't have to be a slot car tuning genius to setup a car and have some fun.  All cars run the same tyres, (MJKs provided by the event organisers) and all entries have to be SCX WRC rally cars produced through the years 1999 to 2010.  As a result, the series has a level playing field which hopefully results in a good degree of competition for the entries.

You might be thinking that the WRP is an official racing series organised by SCX slot cars but it's not.  The series is a private non-profit initiative organised by slot car enthusiasts for slot car enthusiasts around the World.

The series consist of only one class, you can see the eligible slot car in detail on Auslot HERE  (plenty of choices I'm sure you'll agree)

Entry fee is $AU38 (which can be paid via PayPal) which need to be paid by 1 February 2014.  Your entry fee covers the cost of; sending each entrant a set of control tyres, sending you car between international rally tracks, the return of you car after the series has ended and the distribution of prizes.  Any remaining funds are added to prize pool.

If you're interested, you can enter the proxy by putting your name down on the Auslot forum  HERE but you only have till the 18th of January so get in quick.

Who knows, it might be your name on a trophy this year!

I don't know about you but I'm an impulsive slot car buyer and I'm not sure how, but I seem to have missed some lovely cars over the last few years. I'm not normally a fan of SCX, but after seeing a number of these Fiat Abarth 600's I tasked myself with tracking down one at reasonable $$$.

If you look at eBay the Fiat Abarth 600 seems to attract a premium for those willing to Buy-It Now however as an astute buyer I managed to pickup the Tissot 600 for a mere $48 AUD delivered from a seaside slot shop in the UK.

I have to say the car is absolutely gorgeous and very unique. Some of the early Fiat 600's from Scalextric regularly fetch in excess of 600 Euros. It's a little bit sad that SCX only made four (4) of these models because as soon as you see one of these cars in the flesh resistance is futile. .

There are a couple of limited editions released in Spain as well if your keen to collect them all.

I would have liked to have provided a 1:1 comparison picture however I'm unable to find the exact car in any photographs.

Toyota Camry “Kyle Busch” #18 - Kyle Busch is one of Nascar’s most talented drivers and when he gets behind the wheel of the M&M’s number 18 he’s sure to give the fans a good show. Busch finished the 2008 season with a career-high 8 wins and finished 10th in the points.

Toyota Camry “Joey Logano” #20 - The Home Depot Camry is driven by Joey Logano an up and coming driver in Nascar’s Sprint Cup Series. Logano has been racing since the age of 7 and has established himself as one of Nascar’s best young drivers with a win in the 2009 season at Loudon, New Hampshire.

NEWS: SCX Redbull Fever

I just received these Redbull SCX slots in the mail from Steve at SCX UK, thanks mate. They are impressive looking models and although the Skoda WRC isn't my type of car, I have to say it's very impressive on the track. Over the past few years I have developed a fondness for the 'modern' SCX slot car releases and these 3 slots strengthen that opinion.

Detail levels are high and importantly, these slots are a lot of fun to drive around the track. What's better is when my 4 year old son drives them I don't have a completely terrified look on my face. With the exception of Scalextric slot cars, I think modern SCX slots represent the best value for money on the slot market today.

Of the 3 slots, the Ferrari 360 GTC is hands down the fastest on my track. Times were 6.22, 6.83 and 7.14 for the Ferrari 360 GTC, Skoda Fabia and Aston Martin DBR9 respectively. I was pleasantly surprised by the Skoda as it doesn't have the SCX floating motor pod and is 4 wheel drive but still beat the Aston Martin. The Aston was having trouble keeping it in the slot and a small bit of weight up front may correct this resulting in better times.

The Ferrari 360 is simply an excellent slot on the track and very enjoyable to drive. This is my second SCX Ferrari 360 and they are both great slots. If you've been thinking about getting a 360, stop thinking.
