GALLERY: Ford GT40

Scalextric Ford GT40
German Limited Edition

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

  • The Scalextric Ford GT40 is a very collectable slot car especially in limited edition form, (the German GT40 cars are limited to only 2,000 releases each)
  • Strong 'from the box' performance,
  • Stunningly detailed slot car
  • Fantastic paint and decal finish
  • Front lights
  • 2 magnet positions

Weaknesses:

  • Average non magnetic performance

Verdict:

The Scalextric GT40 is one of the most popular slot cars ever released. Scalextric struck a pot of gold when they decided to release this beauty. Gt40s are very popular and as a result limited edition releases sell out quickly and soon become very collectible. The German limited edition cars are limited to 2,000 editions each and have all but sold out Worldwide. If you are lucky enough to find one of these for sale, buy it.

It will be very interesting to see if the Scalextric releases retain their collectability now that Slot.it and NSR are going to release their own versions of the popular mark.

NEWS: Racer Chaparral 2E

Racer Chaparral 2E
RCR54A - #65 P.Hill, CanAm Laguna Seca 1966
RCR54B - #66 J.Hall, CanAm Laguna Seca 1966

In a little over a week, Racer will be releasing 2 liveries of the famous Chaparral 2E which raced in the CanAm Laguna Seca in 1966. The number 65 car driven by Phil Hill went on to win the race.

These are both stunning looking slot cars and as we have come to expect from Racer, the detail and finish levels on these models is outstanding! Enjoy the photos from Racer Slot Car.

NEWS: Slot.it March Releases

Slot.it March 2010 Releases
Audi R8C & BMW McLaren F1 GTR

Slot.it has just released two stunning slot cars, one that will look a little familar to you and one that won't. It looks like Slot.it are intending on releasing the entire Audi R8C range again with the new updated chassis, etc. I think this decision will make a lot of slotters very happy as those who missed out when they were first released can finally get their hands on one.

The other car Slot.it has released is the Gulf McLaren F1 GTR. I have the three previous liveries but this new Gulf livery leaves them for dead in my opinion - be sure to get one while you can!

Apparently there have been a 'few' issues with some front wheels and as a result each model is shipped with a spare set of front wheels, you can't ask for better service than that.

NEWS: NSR Update

NSR 2010 Release Update

These great photos from Italia Slot show some of the upcoming NSR releases. One big surprise for me is the 'weathered effect' Porsche 917K with driver that NSR has front and centre in the above photo. I have resisted purchasing a NSR 917K (having numerous Fly versions) but the weathered effect number 2 917K looks incredible and will be a must have for most classic collectors.

Here are a some photos of additional releases planned by NSR, it's a tough line-up to ignore and these photos don't include the new P68 release liveries.

Feast your eyes on the upcoming Ford GT40 release, WOW! NSR will soon become the classic slotters manufacturer of choice, if we can just talk them into the Ferrari 512 (although there may be licensing issues with Carrera).

And finally some Mosler updates, the 'Gravity' Mosler is also to be released by Ninco although I don't see these 2 manufactures competing for the same slot dollar.

The first Mosler shown below is the 'Five Years' Italian Championship winner release. I would expect release numbers for this special Mosler to be limited so make a move if you're going to be after one.

MOVIE: GT40 Derek Bell

Derek Bell behind the wheel of a 1966 model GT40 Mk.I built by Pathfinder Motorsports doing a demonstration run at Sebring International Raceway's 24-hour course.

This is an excellent quality movie, hdmi output to your TV and stereo if possible. I dare you to turn it up above -5dB with the subwoofer cranked!

SPORT: Lotus T127

Lotus Releases the T127
for the 2010 F1 Season

Lotus Motorsport recently launched the T127 for the 2010 F1 season which gets underway on 12th of March this year. The car looks exceptional in the classic Lotus green and yellow and one can only wonder how long it will take Scalextric to release this car? Not too long I hope!

This from Formula1.com; 'The new Lotus team officially launched their 2010 car on Friday, as the Cosworth-powered T127 was unveiled in the UK. The Malaysian-backed squad, one of four new entrants this season, will put the legendary Lotus name back on the grid for the first time since 1994.

At the wheel of the green and yellow-liveried machine will be former Toyota star Jarno Trulli and ex-McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen. Both were in attendance as the wraps came off their new charge in front of around 500 guests at London’s Royal Horticultural Halls.'

You can watch a movie of the T127 in action during testing at Silverstone.

LIGHTENED Release

Ninco are about to release another in their ever popular Mosler MT900 line-up, the 'Gravity Racing' livery. The livery looks striking and given the presence of Gulf sponsorship on the livery, I'm sure it will be a huge hit. Get one while you can!

GALLERY: Ferrari F40

Fly Ferrari F40
Le Mans 24hr 1995

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

  • The Fly Ferrari F40 represents a good level of collectability as a Ferrari and due to the popularity of the Pilot livery
  • Solid 'from the box' performance, any slot that can lap sub 6 seconds on my track is a winner, (best lap was 5.91)
  • Stunningly detailed slot car, (the F40 is impressive even by Fly standards)
  • Fantastic paint and decal finish

Weaknesses:

  • Rear axle has a little sideways play, mine required 2 spacers to correct
  • The slot would benifit from a rear tyre upgrade and a more powerful motor

Verdict:

The 1:1 Ferrari F40 is a cult car, Fly and Slot.it both produce this model for obvious reasons. For my money the Fly version wins hands down. The Slot.it may be slightly faster on the track and have better engineering but the Fly version has the sleek lines that reflect the 1:1 car and to be that is most important to me.

The Fly F40 comes as a kit with 30 plus pieces that can be put together in 20-30 minutes. Instructions are clear and all you will require is a little glue and perhaps a sharp knife.

This is a great slot car, details levels are fantastic, paint and decal finish are excellent and on track performance is very good and it's a Ferrari - what more can you ask for in a slot car!?
