GALLERY: Mercedes C9

Slot.it Mercedes Sauber C9
2nd Suzuka 1989

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

  • The Sauber C9 represents strong collectibility
  • Excellent engineering: Powerful motor/quality gearing
  • Rear alloy wheels
  • Adjustable pivoting motor pod
  • Quality paint and finish levels
  • Strong 'from the box' performance
  • Fantastic level of detail
  • Strong non-magnetic performer

Weaknesses:

  • Weak rear tail

Verdict:

The Slot.it Suzuka C9 is a very popular slot car and sold out very quickly when released. As a result this slot car represents a high level of collectability. Although the ST livery could be described as simple this slot car looks very impressive on the track.

The Saubers on track performance is strong but isn't as strong as other Slot.its such as the R390, McLaren F1, Chaparral 2E or Alfa 33/3. Regardless of this the Sauber is a very impressive looking slot car with strong on track performance. Mercedes captured the attention of most the motoring world with the release of the Sauber C9 and this is a stunning slot car in any slot car line up.

GALLERY: McLaren M23

Scalextric McLAREN M23

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

  • The Scalextric McLaren M23 has limited collectability
  • Strong 'from the box' performance
  • Strong detail and finish levels

Weaknesses:

  • Scalextric could have gone further in the detail department, a poor cousin to Fly's classic F1 releases
  • Average non magnetic performance

Verdict:

The Scalextric McLaren M23 is slot car that you may easily miss if you're not a huge classic F1 fan. These cars are not as popular as Scalextric's Ferrari 312T F1 which was released at the same time. Personally I really like the McLaren and it looks fantastic racing around the track. Due to its limited popularity you can pick up one of these for a fair price without too much trouble.

On track performance is excellent, any slot that can achieve a sub 6 second lap time on my track is impressive, and the McLaren best was 5.68 seconds.

GALLERY: Ferrari 512BB

Carrera Ferrari 512BB LM 1979 NART

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

  • Carrera are still the only slot car manufacture to make the Ferrari 512BB
  • Strong 'from the box' performance
  • Impressively detailed slot car
  • Front and rear lights
  • 2 adjustable magnets
  • Reverse direction switch

    Weaknesses:

    • Average non magnetic performance

    Verdict:

The Carrera 512BB was popular when released but has not achieved the fame of Fly classics or the likes of Scalextric GT40s. This means you can still manage to pick up one of these beauties for a modest price although mint condition 512BBs are getting harder to find. The car is fun to drive although it does feel a little heavy.

The 512BB has awesome magnetic track performance (as tested on my Carrera track) - this car features in the ManicSlot's top 10 magnetic lap times alongside the likes of Slot.it and Sideways, no small achievement!
