GALLERY: Scalextric Tyrrell 002

Scalextric Tyrrell 002
C3482A, Francois Cevert, 'Legends' F1 series

The Tyrrell 002 makes for another stunning classic F1 release from Scalextric in their newly introduced 'Legends' range.  Presentation on the track is fantastic, Scalextric have put a lot of effort into capturing the detail and their efforts are appreciated.  The large intakes in the front wing make the car look particularly unique and the blue elf livery looks great on the track.

Performance is also very pleasing with my model turning some fast and competitive laps straight from the box.  You'll be happy to know that Scalextric have fitted the Tyrrell with their small button magnet (just forward of the rear axle - see below photo) allowing the slot to drift at time when pushed through corners.

I must apologise for the quality of the photography, my 7D is on the blink so these have been taken with my iPhone.  :)  The Tyrrell is limited to just 3000 units, availability will be short term so make sure you secure one if you have the means.

From Scalextric: 'The 1971 French Grand Prix took place for the first time at the brand new Paul Ricard circuit in the mountains outside Marseille. Jackie Stewart gained pole position from Clay Regazzoni, Jacky Ickx and Graham Hill.

From the start, Stewart streaked ahead, setting fastest lap on lap 2 and pulling out a 10-second lead by lap 7. It was a 1-2 success for the Tyrrells on a tricky circuit, the Ford engine providing extra power down the very long Mistral straight. Cevert, having qualified 7th, fought his way to a 2nd place finish behind team partner Stewart.'

GALLERY: Ninco Renault Megane Trophy

Ninco Renault Megane Trophy
50551, ATAG 'Lightning'

Ok now for something a little different - a bit of a favourite and not without good reason amongst slotters, the Ninco Renault Megane Trophy.  A cracker of a chassis, the Megane is a delight to setup and race on your favourite track.  The Ninco 'Lightning' edition is particularly striking in ATAG orange and alloy 5 spoke hubs.  This baby comes standard without a magnet but who needs one when your provided with such a well balanced chassis? A little well distributed weight and a rear rubber upgrade and you're in business! :)

From Wikipedia: 'In June 2011 Renault Sport revealed a limited edition 265 hp/265 lb-ft version of the Mégane III called the Mégane R.S. Trophy. The Megane R.S. Trophy uses the same 2.0 four-cylinder as the standard 250 hp R.S. but thanks to modifications such as a new air intake it gains an extra 15 hp, pushing the power output to 265 hp, or 132.5 hp per litre.

It hits 0-62 mph in six seconds flat and goes on to a top speed of 254 km/h (157 mph). It is instantly recognizable thanks to model-specific decoration such as Trophy stickers on the doors, a new spoiler and specific 19″ rims with R.S. center caps. It comes in a model-specific metallic yellow (Jaune Sirius) but is also available in more low-key colors such as white (Blanc Glacier), black (Noir Étoilé) and gray (Gris Cassiopée).

Renault will limit the production to 500 examples. It will be sold in France, Australia, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and in Slovenia. In France it will carry a base price of 35,500 €'

GALLERY: Scaleauto BMW Z4 GT3

Scaleauto BMW Z4 GT3
SC-6018 - Team Englster, 24h Dubai 2011

I recently had the opportunity to add a Scaleauto BMW Z4 (at a good price I might add) to my line-up of Scaleauto slot cars.  I had always liked the look of the Z4, even as a street car it has a unique 'classic' shape and quality about it.  Scaleauto's offering is equally stunning in appearance and very impressive on the track.  Scaleauto have also just released the new 'Studie AGs' Super GT Z4 (SC-6028) with Japanese Magna-type themed livery which looks awesome - this Z4 exercise might get expensive!

From Wikipedia: 'An FIA GT3-specification car available to private teams.[11] While the production version of the BMW Z4 has a six-cylinder engine, the GT3 car is powered by a 4.4-litre eight-cylinder engine derived from the BMW M3 GTS, which produces approx. 515 PS (379 kW; 508 bhp).

The weight of the BMW Z4 GT3 is approx. 1,190 kilograms (2,624 lb). In its first year of racing, the car proved competitive in the FIA GT3 European Championship as well as not only emerging victorious from the Dubai 24 Hour endurance event, but also heading to second place from a low 49th position at the 2011 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps event by the Need For Speed Team Schubert.

Nobuteru Taniguchi and Taku Bamba were the champions of the GT300 class in the 2011 Super GT season.
