Cartrix Classic F1
Mercedes Benz W196 and Lancia-Ferrari D50
If you're looking for some of the most attractive and collectible classic slot cars made, then you need look no further than the Cartrix Classic F1 range. These slot cars are absolutely stunning and with the exception of Scalextrix, no other main stream manufacture offers such an extensive range at relatively affordable prices.
The only down side to these highly detailed, scale accurate and visually stunning slots is that they don't perform on the track that well. In fact they are pretty bloody terrible straight from the box. With a bit of love and some performance parts, you can however turn your beauty into a high-performing lap machine. The 2 Cartrix slots featured here have had their spoked wheels upgrade with Racer wire rims and rubber, (RCRWR1) Slot.it front/rear axles and gearing. The result, a complete transformation into a beautifully handling and performing slot car.
The downside is that these upgrades come a a significant price and combined with the initial outlay for the slot, you are looking at around $US120 per car. Not exactly cheap but what a slot car!

This from Wikipedia: 'The D50 made its race debut toward the end of the 1954 Formula One season in the hands of two-time and reigning World Champion, Italian driver Alberto Ascari. In its very first event Ascari took both pole position in qualifying and fastest race lap, although his car's clutch failed after only ten laps. Following Ascari's death, and in increasing financial trouble, the Lancia family sold their controlling share in the Lancia company, and the assets of Scuderia Lancia were given to Scuderia Ferrari.
Ferrari continued to develop the car, although they removed many of Jano's most innovative designs, and the car was rebadged as the Lancia-Ferrari D50 and later simply the Ferrari D50. Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1956 World Championship of Drivers with this car modified by Ferrari. During their competition lifespan D50s were entered into 14 World Championship Formula One Grands Prix, winning five.'
This also from Wikipedia: 'The Mercedes-Benz W196 was the Mercedes-Benz Formula One entry in the 1954 and 1955 Formula One seasons, winning 9 of 12 races entered in the hands of Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss.
Firsts included the use of desmodromic valves and fuel injection developed by Mercedes engineers through experience gained on the DB 600 series of engines used on the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter and others during World War II.
The 300SLR was derived from the W196 for the 1955 World Sportscar Championship season.'
