NEWS: Pioneer Chevrolet Camaro (PO11)

Pioneer Chevrolet '67 Camaro
PO11, Alan Green

Pioneer have just released some pictures of their upcoming Alan Green liveried Chevrolet Camaro. I'm sure you will agree with me when I say that the green/white livery looks awesome on the Camaro!  I wonder how many of these stunning slots are destined for the race track and how many will end up collecting dust?

NEWS: Pioneer Camaro Sunoco

Pioneer Chevy Camaro Z-28
PO18, 'Lightweight' Sebring 12hr 1968, Mark Donohue

Pioneer have just released the eagerly awaited Sunoco Chevy Camaro Z-28 and she looks like an absolute gem!  It's nice to see that Pioneer have paid close attention to small details like the bonnet vents and lower front grill driving lights.  The Sunoco blue looks impressive on the Pioneer Camaro that's for sure, I wonder how many of these stunning slots are destined for the race track and how many will end up collecting dust?

The car was raced by Mark Donohue and Craig Fisher who won the Trans Am class in the 12 Hours of Sebring no less.  This release is limited to only 648 slots so if you want one, well you better make a move!

From Pioneer: 'Sunoco Camaro Z-28 No.15 'Lightweight' Sebring 12hr 1968 Mark Donohue.

Limited Edition of 648 pcs, presented in Custom collector packaging.

NEWS: Route1Racing 'SureChange' guide

Route1Racing
'SureChange' guide system

I just heard from Richard Perry at Route 1 Racing about their revolutionary digital lane-changing guide system.  I'll put my hand up right now and confess that I don't run digital slot cars and I also haven't used the 'SureChange' system.  I did a little research and read some user reviews and testimonials and I have to say that the system makes a lot of sense and looks really clever.

Anyway I don't usually promote 'slot stuff' unless I've used it personally but since I don't run digital on my track...I'll leave it to you to make the call.  From my perspective, I love when regular guys who clearly love slot cars come up with something ingenious and our hobby benefits.

Currently you can get the guides for Ninco, Scalextric, Slot.it, NSR and Pioneer slots.  If you run digital (especially non-mag digital) then the below short video is well worth your time as it explains the system really well.

This from Route1Racing: 'Q: What happens when you mix an enthusiastic digital slot racer with bags of ideas with a talented 3D CAD designer who makes his own extraordinary slot car chassis on a 3D printer? A: The revolutionary SureChange guide.

We were fed up with our magless racing classes sliding just a little too much and missing sensors.  Believe us - full speed pit entry when you are not expecting it is irritating for you and extremely annoying for the racer you just punted out of the pits in mid-refuelling. Add to that missed lane changes as racers exit bends with a little too much juice and the rewards of driving without magnets can be outweighed by the lane change disadvantages.

Even with magnets fitted, some of our better tuned Super Resistant cars, with standard 18k motors on treated tyres, were sliding and missing sensors.  So we felt we needed to do something and the idea of the SureChange guide was born.  It’s simple really - you need your LED to stay over the centre of the slot in order to guarantee the sensors being able to read it. Putting the LED some way behind the guide means that a car that isn’t straight - isn’t showing its LED to the sensor.  Scalextric lane changers stay where they were last changed to - so a sliding car has a 50/50 chance whether it will go straight or change lanes.

Our SureChange guide places the LED in the one place it is always over the centre of the slot - directly in front of the guide blade. So as long as you keep the car in the slot you will never miss a sensor.'

GALLERY: Pioneer 'Stealth' Camaro SS

Pioneer Chevy Camaro SS
PO42 Special 'Stealth' Edition of 396 only

Well after hugely testing period for Jules and the Pioneer team it looks as though the hard work has all been worth it (especially for us).   For those who aren't aware, to ensure quality of product Pioneer has moved their entire production operation half way around the world, from China to the UK. The release of Pioneer's Chevy SS Camaro will be the first slot car produced in the UK in almost 40 years - hard to believe!

From Pioneer: 'Yep its true. Pioneer will unleash their first UK offering in the shape of a Matt Black Stealth SS Camaro 21k Motor in two weeks time. Cars entered final assembly Thursday May 16th GMT, and we cant wait. It has been a massive feat but with the help of British manufacturing and production it will be the first slot car made in the UK for approx 40 years. We believe the best yet!!!'

This from INASLOT; 'SPECIAL EDITION of 396 pcs. Fitted with the rapid TYPHOON 21k motor. Continuing the very popular STEALTH series of street cars and following on from the Mustang and Charger, this 396 SS Camaro model is presented in the familiar satin black décor finish. 21K TYPHOON motor, sidewinder configuration.  Detailed Street interior QuickChange braids.   Digital DPR ready Model complete with custom artwork display case. Spare parts bag included under base!'

I recently read some negative comments about the finish quality of the new Pioneer Camaro on Facebook.  I have over half a dozen Pioneer slots (including the Camaro shown here) and I can tell you as a serious slotter that there is no substance to these claims.

What you'll get when you buy a Pioneer is a good looking, well finished slot car you can put on the track and immediately race against any Scalextric, SCX, Ninco, Carrera or FlySlot offering.  Further more, the chances are a Pioneer slot car will out perform them on the track.

Historic American muscle isn't for everyone but for me the all new Pioneer Camaro SS is a striking slot car and I was very happy I had purchased it the instant I removed it from the box.

My advice, if you're after a Monet to look through a glass case at then buy a Racer.  If you're after a well made, ready to run, competitive and wicked looking slot car then buy a Pioneer!

I'm moving to a more 'track' orientated type of photography for the gallery as apposed to the white 'high-key' background you might be used to viewing here at ManicSlots.  Let me know what you think?

NEWS: Pioneer Stealth Camaro

Chevy SS Camaro 'Stealth'

Well after hugely testing period for Jules and the Pioneer team it looks as though the hard work has all been worth it (especially for us).  For those who aren't aware, to ensure quality of product Pioneer has moved their entire production operation half way around the world, from China to the UK.  The release of Pioneer's Chevy SS Camaro will be the first slot car produced in the UK in almost 40 years - hard to believe!

The Camaro looks bloody awesome in matt black but if you want one then I recommend you start making moves right now.  The second livery to be release will be the 'Sunoco' race livery followed by the Alan Green #7 car.

Released photos to date are small but as soon as I get some larger ones I'll be sure to post them.  10 points Pioneer!
