You don't have to purchase a 'white kit' to get into creating your own slot cars liveries. Often you have a slot that you like driving so much that it starts to look a little old from wear and tear. You know the slots I'm talking about, we all have them and these slots are the perfect candidate for a respray. Revamping an old slot also has the bonus of providing you with brand new slot for the cost of a little paint and some decals.

In this case I had completely destroyed yellow ProSlot GT-one that had been accidently crushed by a small child, yes I said crushed! The chassis was in good order however the body was badly damaged, almost in two pieces. Firstly I went about fixing the body which is another story and after some putty sanding, etc. it was time for a new coat.

I decided to add a little detail and upgrade the wheels/rubber as these are wonderful slot cars and the ProSlot release is getting harder to acquire these days. Wheels are NSR which I found to be excellent once I put NSR rubber on them. I also decided to add an aerial which is flexible. The livery is a fantasy Rothmans livery made up of a few left over decals I had.

In this case I had a very tired Slot.it R390 Road Car, she had lost both mirrors and the paint job was scratched and worn. Interestingly when this model was released by Slot.it it had a well documented problem with the front wheels being seriously out of alignment on the front axel. I contacted Slot.it regarding my models problem as was sent new set of front wheels promptly, since then this model has run like a star. I was really impressed with Slot.it and it demonstrated their dedication to excellence and this hobby.

The livery is a fantasy Warsteiner livery made up of a few left over decals I had.

I'm very happy to say 'white kits' are here to stay and have quickly become a fantastic part of our hobby. But you don't have to wait for your favourite slot car to come out in white kit before you can create your own piece of slot soul, a unique liveried slot car with your own character. This featured piece of slot soul is a little different to my usual and before you think I've turned ruined a perfectly good Scalextric Porsche, let me explain.

So you have a 5-10 year old daughter and you introduced her to slot cars but the sparks didn't fly for her, these slot car things are too boring Dad! This was the problem I was faced with a few years ago and it got me thinking, how could I make slot car racing more appealing to my daughter?

The answer was to make it more fun and what could be more fun than driving a purple Porsche covered in butterflies? I picked an easy slot to drive on my track, gave it a quick sand, prime, respray and found a sheet of butterfly sticker at my local Spotlight store for a few dollars. I then gave the applied stickers a quick seal spray and presto, a certified daughter slot car magnet!

The combinations are limitless, you just have to be prepared to take a perfectly good slot and paint it some outlandish colour. A word of warning, once I had done this for my daughter my son started making requests for Tomas the Tank Engine and Lighting McQueen slot car resprays.

2007 has to be the year of the plain kit. Slot.it, MB Slot, Ninco and Spirit all release slots in plain kits so you can create your own piece of slot soul, a unique liveried slot car with your own character. I find that there is nothing more enjoyable as racing your own personal liveried slot.

I thought I'd start sharing some of my sprayed and liveried slot cars as I really enjoy this aspect of our great hobby. If you're a first timer, this section is designed to inspire you to start down the road of producing your own slot cars. If you have already explored this aspect of our hobby, I hope you enjoy the photos. I encourage you to send some photos of your cars in so I can share them with other readers.

This slot started life as a Fly Racing Ford Capri RS Turbo. As this car is a Fly Racing version, it came with no decals and was a foul light blue colour. Basicallt it NEEDED a face lift big time! The Foxhill Racing Capri is a fantasy livery. I know there are a lot of slotters that don't like fantasy liveries, but I think it works really well with the aggresive lines of the Capri.
