SLOT SOUL: Toyota GT-one

SLOT SOUL: ProSlot
Toyota GT-one Rothmans

You don't have to purchase a 'white kit' to get into creating your own slot cars liveries. Often you have a slot that you like driving so much that it starts to look a little old from wear and tear. You know the slots I'm talking about, we all have them and these slots are the perfect candidate for a respray. Revamping an old slot also has the bonus of providing you with brand new slot for the cost of a little paint and some decals.

In this case I had completely destroyed yellow ProSlot GT-one that had been accidently crushed by a small child, yes I said crushed! The chassis was in good order however the body was badly damaged, almost in two pieces. Firstly I went about fixing the body which is another story and after some putty sanding, etc. it was time for a new coat.

I decided to add a little detail and upgrade the wheels/rubber as these are wonderful slot cars and the ProSlot release is getting harder to acquire these days. Wheels are NSR which I found to be excellent once I put NSR rubber on them. I also decided to add an aerial which is flexible. The livery is a fantasy Rothmans livery made up of a few left over decals I had.

GALLERY: Toyota GT-one

ProSlot Toyota GT-one
Le Mans 24hr 1999

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

  • The Proslot Toyota GT-one was a very popular slot,
  • Excellent performance once setup correctly (although could require some work)
  • Stunning non-magnetic performer with a little weight
  • Floating motor pod (one of the first manufactures to incorporate one)
  • Great rubber
  • Light model with powerful motor
  • Very quite model

Weaknesses:

  • Required significant adjustments and after market parts to get running well
  • Poor model detail
  • Poor wheels, (non circular) and rear axle setup
  • Basic to poor paint job
  • No front axle

Verdict:

The Proslot Toyota GT-one was an interesting slot as it would disappoint when first put on the track but once setup correctly (namely the replacement of the entire running gear and wheels) would run like a dream particularly in non magnetic trim. Slotters love for the 1:1 race car made it popular as a slot and once Proslot stopping manufacturing slot cars the GT-one soon became very hard to find, (particulary in the blue and yellow liveries).

A Proslot GT-one comes up from time to time on ebay, however MRRC Scaleauto now have the Proslot GT-one tooling and make a superior GT-one (with alloy wheels, etc.) if you don't want to wait for an original.

PAGE: ManicSlots' Resprays

Welcome to ManicSlots'
Respray Gallery

With so many white kits available from Slot.it, MB Slot, Ninco and Spirit it's possible to create your own piece of 'slot soul', a unique liveried slot car with you signature.  Personally I find that there is nothing more enjoyable as racing your own liveried slot.

I thought I'd start sharing some of my resprayed and liveried slot cars as I really enjoy this aspect of our great hobby. If you're a first timer, this section is designed to inspire you to start down the road of producing your own liveried slot cars. If you have already explored this aspect of our hobby, I hope you enjoy the photos.  If you feel inclined I encourage you to send some photos of your liveries so I can share them.

The slot you're after not photographed here?  I have hundreds more slot car photos under 'Reviews', 'Immortal Slots' and the 'Gallery' sections.  Check-out the links below;
