ManicSlots has just published its 100th post for 2009 and will soon achieve 200 posts since we started bringing you news, views, reviews and how-to's back in late 2007.

2009 has been a great year for our hobby with possibly the best still to come.

GALLERY: Pioneer Mustang

Pioneer 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT
'Bullitt' Steve McQueen

'It all begins with a glance in the rear view mirror and the click of a lap belt. What follows is the greatest car chase ever filmed.'

The ManicSlot Mini Review

Strengths:

  • The 'Bullitt' Mustang is Pioneers first release and has very strong collectible status
  • Excellent 'from the box' magnetic performer,
  • Vehicle Data Card and spare body parts included
  • Spare glide, braids and full set of wheels included
  • Digital Plug Ready chassis, (Scalextric Part Ref C8515)
  • Very high level of detail and paint finish including detailed interior and 'Steve McQueen' driver figure
  • Good levels of engineering
  • Quick change braids

Weaknesses:

  • Lights would be a nice touch
  • Small amount of play in rear axle, (easily fixed with a single shim)

Verdict:

The 'Bullitt' Mustang is a very exciting and highly anticipated maiden release from Pioneer and for good reasons, this is a very special slot car.

It reminds me of when Slot.it released the Audi R8C or when Fly released the very first Viper, events that define the evolution of slot cars in our hobby. Pioneer's Mustang does just that, it evolves our hobby by setting new standards in attention to detail and finish. Pioneer is clearly a company that thinks outside the box and listens to the slot community with both ears.

Pioneer has shown they are prepared to go to extreme lengths with respect to detail and finish and have engineered a very drivable slot car. If you don't have one of these in your collection you're crazy!

NEWS: Holden Torana L34

Scalextric C3030 Holden Torana L34
1976 Bathurst Winner

Soon to be released as part of Scalextric's Classic Collection is the 1976 Bathurst winning Holden Torana L34. Detail levels look just FANTASTIC on the Scalextric Torana and you have to love those wheels. This bad boy comes standard with front and rear lights (although the front lights are painted over?) so you know it's going to look just wicked doing laps around your track.

This is one I just can't wait for and you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know it's going to be very popular here in Australia, gentlemen start your engines.

MOVIE: Santander's Scalextric

Great Santander's TV campaign using Lewis Hamilton and Scalextric slot cars.

This from the Scalextric: 'The production process involved in creating miniature 1/32 scale people, building a normal size track in a normal size living room was an ambitious undertaking but was successfully realised. A shoot on a large sound stage at Shepperton Studios allowed cast members to interact with custom made models of Scalextric track, 32 times their normal size.

This meant when these shots were replicated in a normal size living room the cast and props could be scaled down to fit the exact the proportions of the room itself. Natalie Graeme, the Group Account Director at WCRS commented that it was another fantastic opportunity to marry the dynamism of Lewis Hamilton and the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team with exciting range of bank accounts offered by Santander's UK brands.'

NEWS: Le Mans Miniatures D-Type

Le Mans Miniatures
1/24 Jaguar D-Type Le Mans 1955 Winner

Just in from Angèle at Le Mans Miniatures: 'Please find enclosed the article card of the new release 1/24 for November. It is the Jaguar Type D car number which won the 24 Hours Le Mans in 1955 (ref. LMS019)

This model was not planned in our original program, but we wish it will be a good surprise for all. It is particularly beautiful thanks to very realistic details; leather straps, tires, cockpit let us think about the past.'

Continue: 'For technical reasons the next one will either be a Jaguar. More recent is this one and it had been announced under reference LMS007. It is the Jaguar XJR 12 n°3 Le Mans 1980.

The Porsche RSR n°22 will be released in January to close the 2009 program and before we announce you the program for 2010.

Contact your usual distributor to place your order.'

A very impressive slot for the 1/24 collector and racer, you can read more on the Le Mans Miniatures Website Here

NEWS: SCX Cuda

SCX Plymouth Barracuda

SCX have been very busy and will soon (early next year) be releasing the great looking Plymouth Barracuda. It's great to see companies like SCX, Scalextric and Pioneer releasing these fantastic classic muscle cars as they have a huge following amongst slotters.

The SCX offering looks like it will be a great looking 1/32 version of the Cuda, front looks mean, body sits low down on chassis, wheels and detail look excellent! This one is going to be popular, get in quick!

SCX reference numbers: Plymouth Barracuda #42 (64420/13990) and Plymouth Barracuda #48 (63580/14000).

NEWS: hpi Nissan R34

hpi Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34)

A very exciting release from hpi is the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34), the slot car will be initially released in 4 street livery colours; white, silver, blue metallic and millennium jade. The R34 has long been a cult street car and I'm sure the hpi slot car will share a similar level of popularity.

Detail levels look very good and these slots come with front and rear lights. As yet there is no Australian distributor (that I know of) for these excellent looking and unique slot cars but I'm sure it won't be long. If anyone has one of these or the previously released R32, please post some comments regarding finish, engineering and performance, etc.

NEWS: MB Slot Ferrari F430

Ferrari F430 Challenge
Valle Verde Limited Edition of 1000

Soon to be released from MB SLOT is yet another Limited Edition (1000 only) Ferrari F430 Challenge, the slot will also come in kit form. The previous MB Slot Ferrari F430 driven by Bruno Senna in 2007 was also available in pre assembled LE and kit form.

Like all MB Slot releases, the F430 is a very impressive looking slot car with respect to detail and finish. Having never owned one I cannot personally vouch for them but everything I have read indicates MB Slot releases are impressive also from an engineering and performance perspective.
